DKZ.2R Challenges

Core problems can often be isolated from the current issues, which are then led to an optimal solution with exemplary data by method experts in a competitive or “gamified” form. Such core problems are also ideal for training in e.g. Hackathons or Data Challenges. The special feature in our formats is the application of the FAIR principles and the use of Linked Open Data standards (W3C) together with scientific questions.

Computing resources at DKZ.2R institutions are use for regular hackathons. We also plan to use virtual machines provided by the Data Literacy Center de.KCD, so that participants have the right libraries and programs right away and can focus on the core tasks at hand.

The Data Challenges and Hackathons work through reflection and communication of the scientific problem and generally achieve high-quality results. This also serves the communication, transfer, training, and education of the respective community. Solutions to certain problems and knowledge will be made available on the DKZ.2R channels, such as Zenodo.

On May 8th, the Data Literacy Centers DKZ.2R and QUADRIGA are teaming up for a hackathon on the topic of text-corrections using LLM’s.

This will be an internal event for members of the Data Literacy Centers DKZ.2R and QUADRIGA.

The Data Literacy Center QUADRIGA is primarily focused on creating high-quality educational resources for the digital humanities. In our hackathon we will work on a use casedealing with historical texts from the time of the spanish flu. Channelling our resources and competencies will not only help us to strengthen the connections between our two Data Literacy Centers but will also provide us with a use case on how to use LLMs for the post-correction of automatically recognized historical texts which can be used for training purposes such as Data Challenges and Workshops in a variety of different domains.
