Satellite Event @FZJ for Research Data Day 2024
After a successful satellite event last year, hosted by our partner RWTH Aachen University, this year it was Forschungszentrum Jülich’s turn: Research Data Day takes place every year on the second Tuesday in November. It is a campaign organized by fdm.nrw across the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) dedicated to the topic of research data management (RDM). The motto of the 4th Research Data Day in NRW was “Into the data garden: make your research bloom”.
The state initiative fdm.nrw is organizing an online programme (in German) in the morning, which we followed in the lecture theatre of the Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI) at the Forschungszetrum Jülich Campus. After having lunch together in the Seecasino, the local afternoon programme (in English) began under the tagline “Successful research networks: growing together with data”. We focused on the support offered by scientific networks in the field of RDM and data science from the Jülich–Aachen region. They presented their tools or services with a focus on dialogue and small hands-on sessions. Participants had the chance to get to know two of the following networks in more detail:
- de.KCD: Weathering the Storm: Managing Research Data in the Cloud
- DKZ.2R: Reducing Data-Related Hurdles in Research
- HDS-LEE: Data Intensive Workflows in Science
- HMC: Organizing Your Software Metadata with Somesy and FAIR Python Cookiecutter
The afternoon programme ended with an open exchange accompanied by drinks and biscuits. All participants have the opportunity to actively participate in the event with their own poster on RDM and data science offers or the design of a topic table on their own RDM issues. You can read a more detailed report of the day on the Webpage of the Forschungszentrum Jülich - Research Data Day 2024 .
As a second DKZ.2R institution, the University of Duisburg-Essen also hosted a successful on-site event. You can read all about that on their Website .
