Data Visualization with Python

A workshop offered in collaboration with the Graduate center of Bonn University.

In this workshop, we will create a small, interactive application using Streamlit and Plotly, and deploy it to the web using the Streamlit cloud and GitHub. Participants will be guided with the help of live-coded examples and self-paced exercises.

Plotting & Programming with Python - FLINTA course

As part of our “Trainings” work package, the DKZ.2R creates, curates and presents a variety of free trainings, seminars and courses. Our next offering will be a two-day introductory workshop on python, to be presented at RWTH Aachen University on the 27th and 29th of May, 2026 in collaboation with the RWTH Aachen IT-Center.

This workshop is offered especially for FLINTA early career researchers (anyone identifying as Female, Lesbian, Inter, Non-binary, Trans, or Agender) and will be presented by FLINTA instructors.

FDM-Werkstatt 2026

We are excited to announce that DKZ.2R is participating in this year’s FDM-Werkstatt, the annual community workshop organized by fdm.nrw around the tools and practices of Research Data Management (RDM).

The fourth edition of the FDM-Werkstatt brings together researchers, data stewards, and developers from across NRW and beyond for three days of hands-on sessions, collaborative problem-solving, and peer exchange. This year’s event is organized in cooperation with the RDM Competence Centre of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, CEPLAS, DataPLANT, and NFDI4BIOIMAGE.

Interactive Data Visualizations in Python

Our next offering will be a half-day workshop on creating and presenting interactive visualizations in python, to be presented at RWTH Aachen University on 4th June, 2025. The workshop will cover data wrangling, creating interactive visualizations using Ploty, and deploying a small web application using Streamlit.

HPC Series: Python on HPC Clusters

Short description
For May of 2025 we recommend the HPC Series: Python on HPC Clusters course, offered by the Jan Steiner and Shayma Wahdan at University of Bonn. The course will teach you some of the Python-related topics beyond the absolute basics of the language - things you will likely run into as a scientist using Python.

The course is spread over two half-days. It will be held as a hybrid course - both online via Zoom and in person at HRZ (Wegelerstr. 6), room 0.012. The course language is English

The course is teaching the very basics of Python and although some experience with other scripting/programming languages is beneficial, no prior knowledge is required for the course. So you can make some basic scripts with python, but what about when it’s time to show off your work? In this course we walk through how to take data from sheets to visuals, presenting them in an interactive application with Streamlit.

Intermediate Python: Classes and Testing

How does object oriented programming work in python? How can I ensure that my code is solidly built before I give it to someone else? In this hands-on workshop, we build a simple project, learning how to use classes to build complex objects and processes, while keeping our code easy to maintain.
